Book signing event at Clyde’s Wine & Dine restaurant on 38th street in Manhattan! Monday,  the 11th of May to inaugural the Literacy Initiative in Dr Dic Barnett’s book – The Athlete Negro, -(The Awakening ). A crowd of over 500 people attended , from the spectrums of entertainment, education, sports, politics, and technology.

The gala was entertained by a rare rendition of the Pledge by the originator of the Last Poets – Abiodun Oyewole.  Baseball – football – basketball –  and hockey personalities interacted, enjoyed the music, food, and contagious conversation, discussing the book posited objectives and mandate.  The Athlete Negro has articulated the belief that the book is a educational tool that every athlete should read, but, that for Black athletes, it’s an awareness tool  and a survival modality molded,towards transition and solidarity, combined with unused power.

SPORTSCOPE – a non- profit organization, in collaboration with the NBA and the OHBM has initiated book signings, literacy projects, discussions, round table conferences, and plenary Sessions emanating from the critical thinking challenges reflected in The Athlete Negro – – – –  ( The Awakening ).
